The Brothers Residence at Central Catholic High School has entered a new chapter, with renovations designed to serve both tradition and tomorrow. This nearly 100-year-old building has long been a cornerstone of the campus, and HDG Architects was honored to help restore and modernize it for the brothers and the wider school community.
Honoring History, Enhancing Function
The renovation scope included the creation of new living suites for the Brothers, full restroom upgrades, and accessibility improvements throughout the building. Historic stained-glass windows in the chapel were carefully restored, preserving the character and spiritual heart of the residence.
Modern upgrades were also critical to the project, with improvements made to the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems – bringing the nearly century-old building up to today’s standards of safety, comfort, and efficiency.
Maximizing Space for Community Needs
In addition to the improvements for the Brothers, the project reimagined the lower levels of the residence by relocating administrative offices and a new Board Room. This change not only better supports the school’s administrative needs but also creates a more efficient and effective use of the building’s footprint. A new President / Admissions office created on the first floor provides an opportunity for prospective families to experience the building.
Looking Ahead
With these thoughtful renovations, the Brothers Residence now embodies both the legacy and the future of Central Catholic High School—preserving its historic character while ensuring it continues to meet the needs of its community. HDG is continuing its partnership with the school through the design of a new Student Center, further supporting Central Catholic’s mission and vision for generations to come.
