HDG provided architectural and interior design services for the 80,000 sq. ft. renovation of two floors of a Pittsburgh office building. For this project, our team programmed and designed a training center, technology lab, small and large group collaborative meeting centers, user lounges, and administrative and support spaces, all of which exhibited flexible environments and were fully technology-enabled to support both on-site usage as well remote conferencing and web-based interactive applications. A combination of reconfiguration and reuse of existing spaces was utilized to create a space that functioned and felt like one cohesive office. Each floor consists of a combination of perimeter and interior, private offices with glass partitions that allow ample natural light into the adjacent open office spaces. Each department has areas for collaboration including small meeting rooms, conference rooms, kitchenettes and casual gathering spaces in the open office areas. One quadrant of the second floor includes common areas meant to be utilized by the entire office. This space includes a large and small conference room that can be combined, locker rooms, and a fitness room. There is also a large break area with a kitchenette and self-serve “micro market”, with varied seating, and spectacular views of the Allegheny River. The interconnection between the two floors of office space was achieved by utilizing similar materials for the same types of spaces.
HDG was proud to be a finalist for this project in the Master Builders’ Association of Western Pennsylvania’s 2020 Building Excellence Awards in the “New Construction Under $10M” category.
