Plum Borough – O’Block Elementary School

HDG is providing comprehensive design services for the full renovation and expansion of Plum Borough’s O’Block Elementary School, now in the construction document phase. The project reorganizes the existing building and adds a new two-story wing. Classrooms for grades K–4 are arranged in color-coded wings tied together by a calming, nature-inspired design. To support the district’s sensory and special needs students, the plan includes five specialized classrooms and sensory/de-escalation rooms on each floor.

The library will be reimagined with a flexible layout and operable partition, connecting seamlessly to the addition. Multiple flex spaces will serve a range of uses—from book fairs to temporary work areas—meeting the school’s evolving needs. New furniture throughout supports an adaptive learning environment. Architecturally, the addition blends yellow brick with modern gray metal panels, echoing recent district projects. Outdoor upgrades include an inclusive playground, shaded seating, new play courts, and improved drop-off areas to enhance safety and traffic flow.
