Oakland Catholic – Innovation Lab

HDG provided architectural services to Oakland Catholic High School for renovation of their existing Academic Resource Center in order to create a new Innovation Lab and College Counseling Center. A portion of the existing Academic Resource Center and an attached office was utilized to create the new laboratory space. The Innovation Lab houses a maker space and variety of S.T.E.M.-geared equipment and resources. The space was designed with flexibility in mind so that it can be utilized by students and teachers from all departments. In addition to the Innovation Lab, an existing conference room and small portion of the existing Academic Resource Center were repurposed into a dedicated College Counseling Center. The College Counseling Center accommodates the Director of College Counseling and College Counselor as well as a conference room for small group meetings with college admissions officers. Through the integration of a new glass partition which has the ability to be entirely open into the remaining portion of the Academic Resource Center or remain closed off, the school now has the ability to partition off that area to accommodate up to 15 students to meet with admissions officers or in-house college counselors. All finishes throughout the space were upgraded as well as the electrical, mechanical, and fire protection systems.
