HDG Architects designed a new Student Center for Central Catholic High School (CCHS), built within the footprint of the school’s former athletic building adjacent to the School’s turf field in Oakland, PA. The facility features student classrooms, faculty offices, a cafeteria, and a range of athletic spaces, including a basketball court, wrestling room, weight room, and multiple team locker rooms that connect to the turf field. All building spaces are located above a below-ground parking garage. A large balcony provides spectators with views of field practices and connects to the school’s quad via a newly designed pedestrian bridge.
Designing a building that respects the historic context of the site while incorporating modern amenities and features was a key focus for the team throughout the design process. Construction is scheduled to begin in the new year.
