Ella is entering her fifth and final year in Carnegie Mellon’s Architecture Program this fall, with an additional major in Hispanic Studies. Outside of academics, she serves as captain of CMU’s Women’s Ultimate Frisbee Team and enjoys writing music, biking, and climbing in her spare time.
This summer, Ella has been involved in a variety of HDG’s projects; from designing monumental signage and attending meetings, to doing field measurements and participating in site tours. She is also currently partaking in the office’s design charrette for interior design concepts for one of the firm’s projects. After becoming familiar with Revit and Lumion, she has produced several renderings for the firm and is working on a 3D fly-through for a project currently under construction.
As an additional facet of her internship, HDG’s Mentorship Committee created a curriculum that includes a Self-Guided Design project. For this, Ella is working on a hypothetical addition or renovation to our current office building, which she will present to a “client.” Project Architect and Mentorship Committee member Calli Baker, RA, has been serving as Ella’s internship mentor. Calli shared, “Though only here for a few months, Ella has contributed thoughtful ideas to projects and has been a great addition to our team. We hope that she has had – and continues to have – a well-rounded experience with our firm. With both her creativity and the new skills she’s learned here, we have no doubt that she’ll be successful as she moves forward with her career in architecture.”
We see big things in Ella’s future architectural career!
