Last week, HDG Architects was honored to join the West Allegheny School District community in celebrating the dedication of the newly renovated and expanded West Allegheny Middle School.
This project has been a special one for our team – transforming the existing building into a modern learning environment designed to support collaboration, flexibility, and innovation. A central feature of the renovation is the new instructional Think Tank, a dedicated space that fosters creativity and teamwork. Throughout the building, classrooms and common areas are filled with natural light, creating bright and welcoming spaces for students and staff. In areas where daylight access wasn’t possible, state-of-the-art LED “windows” were installed to mimic the color, intensity, and rhythm of natural light – bringing an immersive, health-conscious design element to every corner of the school.
The dedication ceremony featured remarks from Superintendent Dr. Jerri Lynn Lippert, WAMS Principal Mrs. Patricia Nolan, Director of Buildings and Grounds Ken Fibbi, and School Board President Robert Ostrander, each sharing their perspective on the importance of the project and the opportunities it will provide for students.
It was a wonderful moment to reflect on the partnership between the District, the design and construction teams, and the broader community that brought this vision to life. Today, as students begin the new school year, they step into a reimagined West Allegheny Middle School and are already experiencing the benefits of their new learning spaces.
